A Lesson From My Mom About Changing Careers After 40
I was only 21 when my mom told me she was headed back to school to change careers–or rather, to build on her already lengthy and terrific career as an R.N. and become a midwife. Of course, to a 21-year-old, any person over 40 seems ancient, and any attempt to change one’s station seems foolhardy (these people will be dead soon anyway, right?). But I tell her story all the time. So when I visited her at work on Mother’s Day this year, it seemed a fitting tribute to her example and her courage to pull her into one of my little videos. It’s her debut, but she handled herself like an old pro, didn’t she?
P.S. I gave this video the subtitle: “I Exploited My Mom On Mother’s Day.” Seemed appropriate!
